How We Grow

At Spine City, growing isn’t rushed. It’s refined.

My methods take time—intentionally so. Every cactus and succulent here is grown with care, restraint, and long-term performance in mind. Where mass-market growers push for speed with high water, fertiliser, and soft conditions, I focus on what matters most to the people who take these plants home—strength, health, and the ability to truly thrive.

This is slow growing. Intentional growing. Real growing.

Nearly everything here is grown from seed—and as of 2024, all seeds are produced in-house. Breeding, hybridising, and selecting parent plants is a core part of what I do. It gives me full control over the quality, genetics, and future potential of every plant.

Water is used sparingly. Fertiliser? Minimal. I rely on high to full mineral soil mixes, replicating the tough, low-organic environments these plants evolved in. This approach trains them to form strong root systems, tight growth, and natural resilience—not artificially fast, bloated growth that collapses under stress.

There are only three species I haven’t been able to crack from seed—yet. They’ve had the better of me so far, and I’ll admit it. Every grower has their white whales.

The difference in outcome is clear. I regularly hear from customers that my plants thrive where others don’t. One collector told me her plant from Spine City is flourishing, while two of the same species bought elsewhere didn’t make it.
That kind of feedback means everything—it’s proof that patience pays off.

These plants aren’t designed to look good for a week.
They’re built to thrive for years to come.

They started with me.
Now they grow with you.
